Sometimes it works..

And sometimes it doesn’t. In the case of the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 32 DI (Deriveur Intégral), it worked very well. This boat is beachable, sails like any 32 footer, and has been maintained exceptionally well.

So what worked so well?

Well, it has long been a tradition among French boat builders, before they replace a model with a newer one,  to equip it with a centerboard. Usually, this does not end well, because the designer never intended it for that, so stability and sail performance really suffer from that. In case of the Jeanneau 32 Sun Odyssey DI however, they did something clever: the original keel was replaced with two shorter ones, with a non-ballasted centreboard in between. The advantages are obvious: the ballast weight is only slightly higher, but still very efficient. The centreboard itself does not atribute to the stability, so sailing with a raised centreboard does not affect your safety. This shows in het CE categorie: just like the fixed keel, she is a B category yacht! And she beaches like an old Dutch barge: stable and with her hull well protected.

One owner

We delivered this boat to its first and only owner in 2007, and were surprised how well maintained she is. No cracks in the gelcoat show she has not een pushed over her limits, the interior is dry and free of stains or other wear and tear. Sailed on the inland waters so no salt ingress and a dry hull. This Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 32 is ready to go!
